First, the infamous, notorious TETON DAM 1/2 MARATHON. What the heck? I was so wishy washy on the whole running thing. I was training diligently for it, then we started to sell our house, I got a third calling, a new dog, and dealing with life in general, therefore, training went right out the window. The irony is that exercise makes you feel better, but when you are stressed out its hard to exercise. So feeling like I wasn't ready I decided that I wasn't going to run. This decision was about 3 weeks away from the race. The Friday before the race rolls around and I was getting ready to head up Idaho to support my amazing sister in law in the race. I was sitting in the bathtub and just decided that I wasn't going to let this get me down. So I made the decision to run. Now the person that made it this far in my monologue is thinking to his/herself that I am pretty indecisive. This is a correct assumtion when it comes to frivilous stuff like running a 1/2 marathon.
So I headed to Idaho with Gary and Kason, having full intentions of running with a deep and irrepressable feeling of fear in the pit of my stomach. We got to Rexburg in time for the pre race dinner. I was terrified, but as I recieve the race packet, t-shirt, and chip, I started to get excited. That night my sister in law had an idea to write on our arms 13 reasons we were running the race. THIS WAS A GODSEND!!!! I never would have the mental awarness to finish had we not done this. Each mile I had a focus written on my arm. And the finality of this is that I finished! I walked about 5 of the 13 miles and ran the rest. It was hard. It was painful. But for the rest of my life I will have the knowledge that I can do hard things. It would have been better had I kept up with my training, but I know that if at any time in my life I am called on to do a physically hard thing, I can. IF THIS FAT LADY CAN, YOU CAN TOO!
Earlier this month I purchased Tetris for my cell phone. This has been the best time wasting game I have purchased. I am so addicted to it. I can't seem to pull away from it. Even if I have other things to do, like clean my house!!! (tetris is just a lot more fun!)
The third week of June was GIRLS CAMP!!! It was a blast. I have never worked harder in my life and yet I had so much fun!! Some cool things that happened at camp this year...
- a bear was sited on the first day.
- I chickened out on cliff jumping, but recued a couple canoes after being swamped
- forgot all my girls camp songs. (why oh why did I not prepare earlier!!!)
- had a big hit with my posterboard man used in the skit. He was named Earl after we got to camp.
- Had a "middle-of-the-night-and-have-to-pee" experience with my buddy Katie in which we thought we saw a bear but turned out to be a skunk.
- Got to hike to Rosy's Mine with 250 girls and leaders. Had the time of my life!!! It was fun.
- Felt a remarkable spirit during the stake workshops for all the girls. They were taught a lot of great things about keeping thier spirits strong. And yes the Spirit was very strong that day!
- Prepared (with the other leaders) a great "Rod of Iron" experience for the girls. They had a great time and felt the spirit so strong.
- Made it the whole week without showering. I was feeling pretty proud, but realized I stunk really bad. Thank goodness I had really strong perfume. (But by the last day, that wasn't even working! It was bad.)
- Had an incredible time, made great friends, and will miss all my new buds from camp.
The day I got back from camp, we went to Lagoon for ATK Lagoon Day. We took Konnor and Kason. It was a great day. Not too hot, but I was tired so I only went on one ride (the Tidal Wave). I so want to go again but be well rested because I want to ride all the rides!!! By 7, I could see clouds moving in and we got all our stuff packed up and put away and then it POURED ON US. I guess it was a pretty bad storm all over the Wasatch front, but we took cover under a picnic area until we decided that we wanted to be done. We then sat in the parking lot for 45 minutes waiting to get out, only to realize that they didn't have enough people directing traffic and that we didn't need to wait as long as we did. Anyway, it was a little frustrating.
The next day was the Reese Family Reunion. It was held in Malad. It was a blast. I love the Reese Family. We are all a bunch of really fun people. My cousin had rented out the bowling alley and swimming pool and it was the Welch days festival. It was a fun and busy day.
And finally it I will end with a great time at the Perry 4th of July. Our family had a float in the parade as we have for the last 25 years. It was great fun seeing all my old buddies from Perry. It really was way too much fun!
Also, my camera is lost so I am going to post pics but only when I find the camera.

You've been busy, girl! I'm so proud of you!!
Honestly just reading about all the stuff you've been doing made me tired. I'm glad you survived girls camp. I only went once, my very first year, and then vowed never to return! HAHAHA. And way to go doing the marathon! You're crazy/amazing!
j-girl, you are amazing!!! i don't think i will EVER run a 10K, let alone a half marathon!!!!
glad your summer is going well!
love ya!
I am glad you are back to posting! I have missed reading about your happenings. I am so so so PROUD of you for running the 1/2 marathon. I did a 10k a couple years ago and about DIED! Mike runs the 1/2 like its a walk in the park. He keeps wanting me to run with him, but I have no motivation to do so.
Glad girls camp was so fun! I am in YW but not going to camp because it would be too much to take the babe with me.
You sure have been busy! How is the house stuff coming along?
Jennie,
Thanks for all of your love and support. I am so touched that you ran with my name for the relay of life. You are such a sweetheart! I had fun checking out your blog. Sounds like you are having a great summer.
Love,
Amber Chase
