Why is it so hard!!!????

Okay, let me soap box for a post. I hate the wieght loss battle. Its hard and frustrating and difficult. I really want to know why its so hard to lose weight? Is it because of emotional issues? physical issues? or mental issues. I have not had such a hard time before. I have been working out for the past month and not only have I NOT lost weight, but I have put on a few extra pounds. This bites in a big way! Now I know the whole "muscle weighs more than fat" argument, but for me all that means is that I am adding muscle mass to all the weight I have to lose. Does anyone have any ideas that doesn't cost an arm and a leg that is realitively easy to follow? I have done the weight watchers thing, but I got poor and had to quit. Also I would love to hear some motivational stories! I need some help NOW!!!!

Yeah, if there's anything magical out there, I'd like to know. My sis-in-law lost a ton of weight by eating plain oatmeal with splenda for breakfast and lunch and a small dinner. When she got hungry she drank a TON of Diet Coke. She went to the gym and ran/walked three miles three times a week. She would walk the first mile and then try to run the whole second mile and then walk the third. She'd try to go on walks with her kids inbetween gym visits. She also told me that she used her hand weights while she was on the computer or watching TV. She went from a size 12 to a size 2 in six months. Not too bad, and her arms are tough! Now she can run all three miles, too, but she has bad knees, so she walks a lot still. Anyway, that sounds pretty simple. oatmeal for breakfast and lunch doesn't sound that appetizing, though.

Jennie, I am feeling the same way. Done the Weight Watcher thing, and it works, but it also costs lots o' money, and I can't afford it either. I am a mess when it comes to food. I just love it, but it doesn't love me. I too would like to hear some ideas!
We're still cute and good girls!

I would also have to say weight training. Weight training burns calories even after you are done because the muscles are working on repairing themselves. If your gym has a weight class do it. And I love this book The Abs Diet For Women. It was an easy fun read. Lots of exercises lots of food ideas lots of good practical knowledge. I have a sister in law that is a dietician and she agreed with all his nutritional information. I too eat oatmeal or other high fiber breakfasts, substitute as much whole wheat into my diet as I can. GOOD LUCK!

I had 9 pounds after Olivia was born and then I got 8 pounds on top of that last year. Lost it doing weights and running. Then gained it again after 7 weeks of eating out in the hotel here. now I am back in a weight training class and back on the treadmill and after 3 weeks I am not seeing pounds, but my clothes fit better and so I know the pounds are coming off next.

stress will most certainly contribute! it triggers chemical release of chemicals that will cause your body to hold onto its fat - seriously!
and you always have to mix it up with workouts - keep some cardio 4-5 days a week, but make sure you alternate swim, run, walk, bike, aerobics, whatever! and keep doing the strength training, too! the more muscle you have, the more efficient your body is at burning fat (that's the reason men burn fat for easliy than women, more muscle mass genetically)
have you been on the biggest loser site? they have some great tips & jillian has a fantastic workout video that will kick your butt that isn't too expensive - if you can be motivated to do it yourself at home! if only i lived closer - we could do it together!
